What is hypnosis?
The word “hypnosis” is a derivative of the Greek word hypnos, meaning “sleep”. The hypnosis practitioner uses various procedures that bring about deep relaxation and a deeply focused state that allows an individual to be unusually responsive to an idea or image, but this does not mean that the hypnosis practitioner can control an individual’s mind or free will. Inversely, hypnosis actually can educate an individual on how to master his or her own state of awareness. By doing this, the individual can affect his or her own bodily functions and psychological responses.
