When I have someone come to me for a hypnosis session, I want him or her to think about their own life for a minute. Unless they or someone close to them, has been prey to an act of physical violence, chances are the worst pain they have felt in their life has come from words callously used– such as some ego destroying remark, undue anger, sarcasm, public and/or private degradation, a wounding nickname, the infidelity of a fragile secret, a rumor, or malicious gossip. You may think, “they’re only words.”
But this is no one area of life in which so many of us infringe on the Golden Rule. If you were about to enter a room and heard the people inside talking about you, would you want to hear them speaking about are your character flaws or the intimate details of your social life. Yet, when you are with others and the conversation turns to people not present, what pieces of their lives are you and your companions most likely examining? Is it their character flaws or the specific details of their social lives? Do you silence the speaker, or do you request to hear some more of the particulars? Negative remarks we speak about our absent companions are one manner we wound with words; we also frequently harshly hurt those to whom we are speaking. Many of us condemn others with cruel, offensive statements, turning a disagreement into a quarrel, depreciate another’s value by inflict wounds that last a forever.
A Japanese scientist, Masaru Emoto completed some fascinating experiments on the effect that words have on energy in the 1990’s. When frozen, water free of impurities will form beautiful ice crystals that resemble snowflakes under a microscope. Polluted water or water with additives such as fluoride will freeze without forming crystals. In his experiments, Emoto transferred pure water into vials labeled with negative phrases like “I hate you” or “fear.” After one day, the water was frozen, and no longer crystallized under the microscope: It generated gray, malformed clusters instead of beautiful crystals. Then, Emoto placed labels that read “I Love You,” or “Peace” on vials of polluted water, and after one day, they created glossy, perfect hexagonal crystals. Emoto’s experiments demonstrated that energy created by positive or negative words can essentially alter the physical configuration of an object. The outcomes were notated in a series of books beginning with The Hidden Messages in Water, where you can see the astounding before and after photos of these incredible water crystals.
How different would your life be if you’d always tried instead of always thinking the worst? Negative patterns are drilled into us by people and circumstances throughout our lives.
So sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can change your being.
