As the New Year begins, it’s natural to want to make positive changes in our lives. One area that many of us struggle with is self-esteem. It can be difficult to love and accept ourselves, especially when we’re constantly bombarded with messages that tell us we’re not good enough.
“But as the famous author and motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, once said, ‘You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.’ So, let’s start by taking small steps to improve our self-esteem.
1. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧. As Dr. Kristin Neff, a leading expert on self-compassion, advises, ‘Treat yourself the way you would treat a good friend.’ Be kind and understanding towards yourself, rather than critical and judgmental.
2. 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, no matter how small. As the wise Oprah Winfrey once said, ‘The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.’
3. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡. Exercise, eat well, and get enough rest. A healthy body can lead to a healthy mind and improved self-esteem.
4. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐧𝐨. It’s okay to prioritize your own needs and set boundaries.
5. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟. Don’t let others treat you poorly or disrespect your boundaries.
6. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞. Take time for yourself and do activities that bring you joy and relaxation.
7. 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝. If you need help improving your self-esteem, don’t hesitate to call me for support. Together, we can work on building your confidence and self-worth.
“So let’s make this New Year the year of self-love and acceptance. Let’s strive to be kind to ourselves and celebrate our victories.
“Who’s with me? Let’s make this year all about self-improvement and self-love!”
