Anger that’s left unchecked can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes.

Anger is an action generally with a deliberate action to harm a person or an object. Anger can be physical or verbal ( Anger Disorders: Basic Science and Practice Issues).ย

Anger can be seen as arising from one or more variablesโ€” external events, internal stimuli (pre-anger state) such as thoughts and emotions, and a combination of these two. External stimuli of anger includes being cut off in traffic, being disrespected by an important person, waiting in line, or being rejected by a significant other.

Internal stimuli of anger consist of mental states, prior anger, appraisal assessment methods, and persistent mental characteristics. Immediate states include mental reflection about an upcoming event, thoughts about being wronged or treated with disdain often leading to increased anger. Expression of prior anger increases the likelihood of one responding angrily in subsequent situations, especially if the two situations are similar. Assessment includes the meaning of the anger-eliciting event and oneโ€™s perceived ability to cope with that event. In contrast, the cognitive basis of depression is loss, anxiety is future danger and personal vulnerability, and cognitive is anger isย probably personal violation, victimization, and unfairness (โ€œHow dare you treat me like this! Who do they think they are?โ€)

One class of interventions is hypnosis tools used in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which can assist coping, problem-solving, and social skills training, and how anger is expressed. In many cases, people behave angrily because they do not know what else to do, operating perhaps on the automatic implicit assumption that the best defense is a good offensive. This decreased knowledge affects not only their physical actions but also their verbal behavior. Problem-solving training can assist an angry individual to break the often automatic and immediate demonstration of anger in challenging moments into various progressive and manageable steps. Social skills training can instruct on new practical, relational abilities to help achieve their goals in another way.
